Squeakin’, Creakin’, Grindin’ Bones!

If you find yourself saying, “ooh it’s my age”, after you hear your joints creak yet again, then maybe it’s time to show them a little care and attention. Yes, as we age (sorry to conjure up images of wrinkles and sagging skin), our joints can start to suffer if we don’t look after them properly. But you know us, we love an anti-ageing challenge! Throw us a wrinkle, and we blast it with antioxidant rich food. Show us a bat wing, and we blast it off with high intensity cardio and resistance training. Show us a grey hair and . . . well we haven’t come up with a solution for that on the exercise and food front so, we’ll erm, send you in the direction of a real good hairdresser!

Anyway, back to the bones. We can all look after them by taking some sort of fish oil supplement which reduces wear and tear from exercise, and ensures that your joints stay lubricated and happy. Great for the skin too, gives it a real sparkle! And never mind getting older, if you are doing long distance training for a ½ marathon, or a triathlon etc., you may also want to supplement with glucosamine sulphate. Long distance training can put extra stress on the joints, and sometimes wear away the cartilage (the stuff that stops your bones rubbing together) between the joints. Over time, this can wear away, causing pain and discomfort, and in some cases may lead to arthritis. It has been suggested that supplementing with glucosamine sulphate can slow down this process by helping to rebuild the cartilage that has been worn away.
