We caught up with Alesha Dixon to talk fitness…

We managed to nab five minutes with Alesha Dixon, the stunning judge on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and the face for LA Fitness. Whether its shimmying across the dance floor strictly-style or busting some sassy dance moves for her latest vid, we knew she’d have a thing or two to say about fitness. Here’s what we asked her…

“How do you stay motivated when you’re just not in the mood?”

After rehearsing with a partner on Strictly, I found that working out on my own could be quite boring and found it hard to motivate myself to stick with my training regimes. To motivate yourself it definitely helps to have someone to work out with. My gym now have a thing called crew classes, which are free classes that last between five and ten minutes, led by coaches.  It could be anything from spin, to rowing to targeted workouts for problem areas like abs and arms. It’s great to work out in a group and definitely helps me to stay motivated.

“What is your favourite butt toning exercise?”
You can’t beat squats. I think floor squats are the most effective for keeping your bum in shape.

“Why do you think fitness is important for women?”
Fitness is important for everyone – not just women. It keeps us healthy, give us energy and basically makes us feel good inside and out.

Lady sounds like she knows what she’s talking about. We’re definitely fans!!

How Beyonce got in shape for her big tour

Sasha Fierce (Beyonce’s stage persona) is one amazing lady.  I saw her in concert as she ran, lunged, squatted and booty shaked her way through each performance, IN HEELS!!!!

If you converted just 3 of her song performances into an exercise video and busted her stage moves you would be gasping for air in the first minute! This lady knows how to work every inch of the stage and I repeat IN HEELS!!!!

So how did she prepare for this marathon performance? Well SELF magazine caught up with her to find out.

The magazine reported that Beyonce works out five days a week with her trainer and does 100 reps of squats, walking lunges and step ups!!  The star is consistent in her mission to get her body tour-ready rehearsing for nine hours a day, seven days a week, and again all IN HEELS!!!!!!  I guess no pain, no gain B!

Would you go naked on the big screen?

Well I’m undecided…my co-star would have to be drop dead gorgeous, love me forever, and tell me I’m amazing at least 100 times a day.  Oh and of course I’d have to be paid millions, because that’s the going rate for hot actresses these days….ok so maybe I’m getting a bit carried away with the whole fantasy thing here, but you’ve gotta think about these things, I mean they’re important in keeping ones ability to self-delude to a maximum.

So anyway, the very lovely Rachel Weiss who looked fab in a green Valentino dress at Cannes this year is doing just that! The beauty puts her clearly flawless, big-screen ready body down to yoga and cutting out junk food for her role in Agora as 4th century Greek philosopher and astronomer Hypatia.  Doesn’t that sound glam!

So should you choose to live in my fantasy world and contemplate just who the lucky man would be to share some naked action with you on the big-screen (that would clearly win an oscar ) and are thinking about which yoga would do the trick in making you big-screen-ready, the following varieties give these results…

Bikram – Prepare to sweat, these 26 postures are performed in 40° heat.  Wonderfully detoxing and great for your abs!

Astanga – One of the more dynamic forms of yoga which will sculpt you into perfection!

Hatha – This slower paced yoga is great for de-stressing with a lot of focus on breathing and meditation.  Great to de-stress!

Kundilini – This form focuses on chanting and breathing exercises before moving into the poses.  One of the more spiritual forms of yoga.
