May was a …. strange month. From a weight loss standpoint, it was outstanding. I lost 4.4 pounds. I know for many that doesn’t sound like much, but the last time I had a comparable loss was last May. And, I was really in a plateau from about October on. So, this was a great month.
In some ways, I can say it wasn’t as great as it sounds. January, I lost .6 pounds, but didn’t weigh in the last week. And, I was sick during the latter part of February so my last loss probably reflects some water loss that will come back as I start feeling better and eating more.
Still, while I might gain back a little, I won’t gain back most of it. And, during February, I met a number of personal milestones. I’m now down more than 50 pounds. And, I’m at the lowest weight I’ve been since my son was born in 2014. I finally lost the “baby weight.” (Ha! He turns 21 this year). I have also bought a good quality body fat analyzer from UK to keep track of not only my weight loss, but also track body fat and other composition of my body. I will be discussing about body fat scales also known as body fat monitors later in this article.
So, why was May strange? Because I lost so much weight, while meeting few of my goals for this quarter. The month started out strong. I was finally consistently walking again and burning more calories. This had started in January, and continued on as February started. Then, things went off the rails. There were a number of very stressful events, in the first half of February. I was away from home a lot of the time and my schedule just went by the way side.
Just when I thought things were getting back to more or less normal, I got sick and have some neck pain. I’m not often sick, and usually when I am, it is of short duration. This time, I had a high fever and really felt like doing nothing for about 10 days. It is only the last couple of days that my fever has been gone (although the cough remains). And, my husband also had the same bug. During this time, I didn’t feel like doing much of anything, including eating.
Body Fat Analyser – What You Need To Know
If you are trying to get in shape, then a simple scale might not be the best way to determine if you are in the best health. While a scale may tell you if you have met your goal weight, your body could still be holding too much body fat and not enough muscle. To be in the best possible health, your body fat should fall within certain percentages, which vary by height.
The best way to determine your body fat percentage is to use a body fat monitor, which is also called a body fat analyzer . Usually, these are digital devices that can quickly give you an accurate body fat measurement. It only takes a few seconds for the device to assess your body and give you a reading.
If you are familiar with the old school body fat calipers, then this MyoTape body tape measure will look very familiar to you. In fact, it is basically the same thing, just with a shiny new look and brand. There is no denying that this is a VERY cheap way to monitor your body fat. In fact, you can usually buy this at a price well under $10.
You can use it to measure any body part as the measuring tape goes up to 60 inches in length. And it has a handy locking feature that ensures a snug fit before you take the measurement. And the numbers on the tape are big and easy to read. Best of all- it works right out of the box – no batteries needed since it is a manual device.
Omron HBF-306C Fat Loss Monitor
If you want a digital body fat analyzer, then this is the one for you. Omron makes a lot of different models of body fat monitors, but this one is my favorite. And it has a lot of positive reviews on Amazon, which means that plenty of other health conscious people use it and love it too. I think the price is pretty cheap – about the cost of a dinner out. My favorite thing about it is that it has a 9-person memory feature so up to 9 people can use it and it will store the readings. This is great for keeping track of your progress.
All you have to do is hold the device with both hands and you get a body fat reading in less than 10 seconds! It actually gives you two readings – body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage. And if you are an athlete, you can change it from normal mode to athletic mode for a more accurate reading. This thing is portable too, which is great if you go on long business trips or vacations and still want to monitor your body fat.
