You know we love our Fit Girls strong, it’s the foundation to all things Fit Girl. Except we know for some of you, the perceived drawbacks of getting strong outweigh the long list of benefits. This usually comes in the form of “but I don’t want to get too muscly…”
To put your mind at ease, may we draw your attention to the following:
We have about a tenth of the amount of testosterone that men do. Testosterone is one of the main hormones that helps to build muscle. We don’t have that much of it, so chill…Arnie you are not!
You can get stronger by recruiting more of your existing muscle fibres rather than building new muscle tissue or bulk. That’s right, you simply need to use what you already have, no new bulk required! This can be done by fine-tuning your nervous system to fire up those muscles when you work out. Do this by performing good quality movement, under load. My favourites include the squat and the deadlift. These big compound exercises require a lot of muscle recruitment, over and above smaller isolated movements like bicep curls and tricep dips.
