Sleep is a key factor in staying healthy, your sleeping hours are when your body is working hardest to reap the benefits of all that training you do so it not to be skimped on! I hear it all the time, “oh I don’t need to sleep that much,” generally said by a person who doesn’t know just how good it feels to actually get decent sleep on a regular basis. 7-8 hours sleep for a week will leave you feeling on top of the world.
So you know you need it, here’s how to ensure that the shut-eye you do get, is quality, light sleepers, this one is for you!
1. Unplug at least 30-60 minutes before bed – that is, no phones, no email, no TV to give your mind a chance to wind down. TV in the room is a no no!
2. Lights out – the darker your room, the better, even the LED light on an alarm clock can act as a stimulus, so get an eyemask so nothing can get through to your peepers.
3. Stay cool – if you don’t live on a busy road getting some cool air into your room is welcome. Stifling hot rooms to not bode well for good sleep. The cooler your body temperature, the better!
4. Empty your head – keep a journal to write a brief account of your day, perhaps even list your most important tasks for the following day or even just write a few things that you are grateful for.
