Goals and Resolutions…oh wait, Dreams too!

Is it wrong that we have multitasked and given you not one, not two, but three options to crack on into 2012?  Well, we have you cheeky little things, just in case any of you slip out of the net with only one of the above.

First, let’s just clarify according to the Cambridge online dictionary:

Goal – definition – aim or purpose

Resolution – definition – a promise to yourself to do or to not do something

Dream – definition – something that you want to happen very much but that is not very likely – erm except we really don’t like this definition because it suggests that dreams are not something we should pursue.  Pesky pessimists!

So let’s first start with goals.  Your purpose.  These my darlings need to be the reason for your very living, your purpose.  How powerful, no?  These can be lifetime, the next 10 years, the next 5 years, or just even a goal for today.  The beauty of goals is that they lead you on a path that can be broken down into tiny little goals, step by step.

Next, resolutions.  We like to think of these as good habits you want to make or break.  They are decisions that will make your life just a little better or a lot better depending on what you choose to take up or eliminate.

Finally, dreams.  These can be anything you want them to be!  Why not?  Life can sometimes be too serious so why not share a dream if only in your personal notebook and think about what changes you might make to get you there.  Why not take 3 months off to travel around South America?  Sure it may not happen tomorrow but make an 18 month plan to make it happen.  Particularly relevant to dreams is a quote that we have mentioned before on FG - “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?” – Marianne Williamson

So go ahead and set some goals, resolutions and some dreams girls.  Oh and if you are one of those people that doesn’t believe in setting goals because you think it is too self-helpy, then you are a fool.  Everybody needs to set goals whether you like it or not.  If you are not giving yourself at least one tiny little thing to achieve in the next year then that is a very sad thing.  So go forth and set the world alight with your new ideas for 2012!
