Time to Get Focused

Oops, the first quarter of the year has just whooshed by, and I’m finding myself putting dates in the diary for September!! No no!! 2011 cannot be nearing at such a swift pace!!! Anyway the point is ladies, with a quarter of the year down, you only have 3/4 of the year left, and hopefully some of those January goals have been achieved? Yes? Some of mine have, and some of mine haven’t, so I always like to do a little goal review in Spring, y’know with summer on it’s way, one always feels a little more zest when goal setting!!
According to Professor Richard Wiseman author of 59 Seconds, you will reach you are more likely to achieve success in your goals if you do the following:
1. Make a step-by-step plan
2. Tell other people about your goals
3. Think about the good things that will happen if you achieve your goal
4. Reward yourself for making progress towards your goal
5. Record your progress in a journal or a chart
Incidentally, it is worth knowing that actions that are not so useful in achieving success according to Wiseman:
1. Motivating yourself by focusing on someone you admire (who wants legs like Naomi Campbell anyway!!)
2. Think about the bad things that will happen if you don’t achieve your goal (don’t stop yourself before you even start!!
3. Try to suppress unhelpful thoughts
4. Rely on willpower (hmmm…running, or staying in this snuggly bed??)
5. Fantasise about how great your life will be when you reach your goal
There’s a fine line between the stuff that works and the stuff that doesn’t, so set your goals and pursue them wisely!!
