Miss Strong, meet Miss Pretty…

OK so there used to be a time when if you were a female athlete, you kind of just trained and wore no make up and looked, well, a little plain. After all, it’s all about sport right? Not whether you’re wearing the latest shade of lip or whether the tootsies are due for a pedi! Let’s say sport has been a little lacklustre on pretty…until now!! It’s the new athlete ladies. Strong and pretty all rolled into one. FG headquarters are beside themselves with excitement, they encompass everything we love. They have nice hair, nice nails, look good, and are seriously strong women!! Meet the 2012 hopefuls girls, and hear what they’ve got to say!!

First of all meet Jeanette Kwakye…ahem currently the fastest 100m female sprinter in the UK!!

We asked Jeanette how she stays focused on her goals? She told us, “I have all my goals written down on my blackberry and in my training diary. I look at this everyday and it reminds me of what I want to finally achieve and why training is so important in order to get me to my victory moment.” Now Fit Girls in case you think we haven’t told you to do this before, a little reminder, we have!! But now that you’ve heard it from the fastest woman in the UK, you might listen up a bit more. Get those diaries, write that shit down!!

Next up meet Joey Duck (200m sprinter).

I think what Joey had to say really stood out amongst all of the girls. When we asked her how the girl on the street can keep herself motivated (apart from reading Fit Girl. Obviously!) she said “don’t do it to change the way you look, do it because you love it.” Can I get an Amen! This girl knows what she’s talking about!! It makes so much sense!! Making health and fitness a part of your lifestyle and actually enjoying it, is what keeps you motivated. Yes sure, squeezing into them jeans is fabulous, but that is a given if you are doing something you love, the jeans will fit!! Exercising to change your body is all well and good, we’re not gonna lie, we all like a tight butt, but while you’re doing it, why not enjoy the journey to a tight butt? So much more fun no?

Next up Jodie (abs) Williams. This 16 years old has a thing or two to teach us!

So how often do you think our Jodie trains? 6 days a week for 6 hours a day?? No siree!! This little ball of tone trains just 3 times a week!! So before you come out with the excuses, oh the only way you can have a body like that is if you train all the time, it ain’t!!! The difference is, that Jodie trains three times a week, EVERY week!!! Not just three times one week, and once the next, oh and kind of two and a half times the following week. CONSISTENCY is key here ladies. If you want it, you’ve got it, so…pardon the pun…Just do it!!!

Finally meet Perri Shakes-Drayton (Hurdles)

This cool chic seems to take everything in her stride. Her advice to the girl on the street to stay motivated is just to never forget what it feels like when you hit victory. She said, once you have that feeling, everything is worth it. Do you hear that ladies?? The blood, sweat, tears, and occasional broken nail are all worth it! These ladies are willing to work hard for that one moment, but their vision is clear and their focus is sharp. They have no time for not feeling in the mood, or feeling sorry for themselves, and hell that’s what it’s all about!!

Are you inspired girls? Do you want to be both strong and pretty? Well, now you know you can!!! Ooh incidentally, it appears that strong and pretty are permeating shoe technology too! Who knew that you could run with diamonds in your shoes? OK, well not actual diamonds but the girls are all approaching their victory moment donning the NikeWomen Fly Sister One shoe featuring Diamond FLX technology, created especially for women to enhance multi-directional movement. Could they have a better name?? Fly Sister!! Girls that’s us!! Fly sisters that are strong, and pretty, and well, love diamonds!!!! You can find these spiffing shoes on nikewomen.com We’ve all ordered a pair, in fact my tootsies are donned with diamonds as I type!!
