Fit Girls, how faireth thee!!! All psyched for twenty ten? Ah ha!!! Us too!!!! In fact, it’s our favourite part of the year: setting goals; seeing the back end of 2009 (it wasn’t pretty); and thinking about all of the treats you deserve for your birthday this year, cos you’re, well, older, and wiser, and need more nice prezzles!!
January is that great time of year that you can say, I’m not drinking and not get blasted by your friends for being a bore! It’s that time when you can nip to the gym merrily and start to work on that tone you’ve been talking about! Yeah that’s right, my butt’s gonna look damn fine in twenty ten FGs!! My shoulder-tone is gonna be deltoid-fabulous suckas!! Hell, you can wash yo laundry on my abs girl!!!! And so on! This initial part of getting-your-body-back is great!! You’re inspired, you’ve got support, and you’re gonna do it!!!!!
There’s just one minor blip! You totally didn’t expect it, it knocked you on your ass the first time you heard it, and now it’s a full blown life force. Introducing the Toxic Friend!!! Now this girl was your number 1 fan when you were in the goal setting phase, in fact, she had her own set of goals too! The two of you were gonna take on the world one lunge at a time. Except Little Miss TF got bored and gave up on her regime, whilst you steamed on determined to reach your goal. At first her support remained strong, you were gonna make it even if she didn’t, and she was gonna be there every step of the way (little did you know, that at this point, this support was powered by her being pretty damn sure, that you too, would shortly follow her path). A week passes however, and you continue on. Determined. Gutsy. Fabulous! Your friend’s support turns from “you can do it!” to, “oh why don’t you catch up with me for drinks later, go to the gym tomorrow instead…” She begins to reveal herself for the true TF that she is!!
A fortnight passes, and TF is pissed off!! She hurls comments at you like, “oh don’t be such a gym bore,” or “you’re just no fun anymore!!” She even goes for cheap shots like “ooh, I’ve made you your favourite dessert!” But you continue on, albeit a little bemused at why TF is all of a sudden trying to obliterate your plan. Yet, you are on such a high, you shake it off knowing that soon she might be able to squeeze out “well done…you look great!” Sweet thought, but no, TF ain’t happy!!
Now however, two months in, you looking spectacular, TF has some groupies, the TF-ettes!! Some of the latter initially asked you what you were doing in the gym, or how you’d changed your diet, they were interested, impressed, in awe! Now however, like Queen TF, they’re jealous, and frankly over all the compliments you’ve been getting!!
Yes FGs don’t expect people to be singing your praises when you be burnin’ those poundses!! They be jealous! Real jealous! They’re now worried about you losing too much weight, yes they’re “concerned” for your health! It’s a sad fact that trainers have to warn their clients about TFs. They come in all forms, girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, friends, parents, you name it, they be toxic!!! There will be one or two people however that give you the praise that you deserve, y’know that are actually genuinely happy for you, y’know the way you kind of expected everybody to be in the beginning, but sadly weren’t!
So FGs, be prepared for those Toxic Friends, they be everywhere! But now you know what to expect. And for God’s sake, don’t actually accuse they of being toxic, just keep doing what you’re doing, and continue to piss them off!! He he!!!!
