To all you thighs out there…show us a little thunder!

Who wants spindles for legs anyway?  Show us a bit of flesh!  New research suggests that people with thinner than average thighs, may have a higher risk of heart problems or earlier death.

Now before you swipe lunging and squatting clean off your workouts, note that this risk is for those with thinner than average thighs, this being 22 inches or 55 cm, when measured just below the bottom.  The study was carried out as doctors are trying to increase the ways in which they can predict cardiovascular risk, on top of the existing measures of: older age, high blood pressure, an unhealthy balance of cholesterol, high BMI (body mass index) and waist-to-hip ratios.

So, thinner thighs if coupled with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and enough time for rest and recuperation, will not put you in a higher risk bracket for heart disease.  It goes without saying that the better you treat your body, the better prepared it is to fight off illness.

If the results still confuse you i.e. thinner thighs should mean a healthier person, possible explanations are that thinner thighs, may mean less muscle mass in the region.  Phew, you can start lunging again girls!

For now doctors are not adding this to their heart health assessment measures so we can rest easy.  For us, it just highlights the importance of staying fit and strong with the added bonus of keeping the booty tight…all that lunging gives a serious posterior lift!
