Spoil yourself this weekend without breaking the bank

Here at Fit Girl we love treats-to-self. We feel they’re important in making us girls feel special, wanted, loved, if only by ourselves. And frankly we feel we don’t do it enough. We think there should be a daily rule of treat-to-self such as: a 15 minute massage in your lunch break; buying the latest shade of nail polish that will make the rest of your outfit pop; nabbing the skirt you’ve had your eye on that is not making the sale this side of ’09. We could go on…but of course the danger of treats-to-self is that they all add up and one might end up in a little debt-to-self, oh dear, life looks less pretty, even with nice nails.

So we thought we would share with you a little indulgence that we have been treat-to-selfing with for years, that is also a treat to your pocket. An epsom salt bath. Yes, you’re right, it’s the stuff people drink when they are constipated. But a muscle relaxant is a muscle relaxant, epsom salts will relax your tired tootsies, pins and shoulders, in the same way that they will relax your bowels. A 20 minute epsom salt bath will make you feel like a million dollars having spent just three! Long distance runners already know this trick, but who says you need to run 10 miles for a little self-indulgence?

So here’s what you need:

500g of epsom salts – you can get them from chemists, and they cost little more than a Starbucks soya latte. It HAS to be epsom salts, no other salts will do.
Some relaxing music – to take you away
Some candles – to set the scene, preferably scented

Add all 500g of the salts to a running bath, and hop on in. A beauty therapist pal of mine also uses epsom salts as a body scrub for super smooth skin, so why not massage the salts into the pins whilst you bathe. Go on, spoil yourself on the cheap…
